Driving back from Connemara I came off the motorway somewhere one damp Irish day. I was drawn to this scene.
I still wonder where this was.
Here is a selection of watercolour sketches from various sketch books. We start with some sunrises from Lajares in Fuertventura.
Here are a few recent paintings. These are all acrylics. One of them is a scene during a regatta off Gorumna Island in Connemara. Others explore a night time theme. Buttimer's, Market Dock and the red boat are Youghal subjects.
Recently I was requested to return to the Connemara theme. A magical landscape of islands and sea, of rocks and of mountains. But what are most spellbinding are the boats.
After all the lockdowns we managed to escape to Connemara, to far out Garumna. It was wonderful. I sketched each morning, something to be recommended. You feel so good afterwards. Funny enough not one of the sketches was painted further than 100 metres from the house. You don't have to go far!
